Tree Lighting Kicks Off Wyandotte's Holiday Season

The holidays get into full swing this weekend with Wyanodotte’s annual tree lighting ceremony on Friday and the 69th annual Christmas Parade on Saturday morning.

While the temperatures weren't winterlike, crowds of people huddled near Sycamore and Biddle on Friday night for the annual Wyandotte tree lighting ceremony.

A sing-a-long featuring the choirs of Roosevelt High School and First United Methodist Church provided the entertainment before city officials turned the switch on to light the city's large tree.

Keeping with the hliday theme, the city's Christmas Parade is on tap for 10 a.m. Saturday. It begins near Ford and lasts about an hour as it heads down Biddle to Eureka.

Those lining the sidewalks to see the parade will be treated to many displays, such as clowns, floats and marching bands. Santa will be at the end of the parade, and will surely put smiles on the faces of all the good little boys and girls in the crowd.

Longtime Wyandotte business owner Joe Daly has been picked to serve as the grand marshal of this year’s parade. Daly is the owner of  and serves as president of Daly Merritt Properties, Inc.
