Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital Partners with Grosse Ile School to Promote Health and Fitness

Dozens of nurses, dieticians and administrators from Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital will partner with the staff of a local elementary
school to encourage and promote health and fitness for the children.

The campaign will take place during the month of September.

The event kicks off at 1p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Parke Lane Elementary School, 21610 Parke Lane, Grosse Ile.

More than 400 children will be in attendance as hospitaland school officials show off some of the prizes, such as new bikes and explain
the program. Afterward, the children will head outside to run around the school track.

Henry Ford Wyandotte President and CEO Denise Brooks-Williams will be attending.

“Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital understands that in order to be successful in school, our children need the support from home, school and
community,” says Brooks-Williams. “As partners, we share the responsibility for our kids’ success.”

During the month of September, hospital volunteers will be working alongside elementary school staff to encourage health and wellness.

They will provide incentives to the students for walking, offer a nutritional night for parents/students, promote wellness monitoring for
second graders (tracking BMIs and nutritional knowledge), as well as invite volunteer physical therapists to participate in a gym class.

In addition, the Henry Ford Self-health Center in Woodhaven will offer supporting programs, including kids’ zumba, family yoga
and Wii competitions.

The entire effort is in conjunction with the Feelin’ Good® Mileage Club, North America’s premier walking/running program for
schools.

Last year, more than 2.5 million children in nearly 15,000 schools logged almost 30 million miles (48 million kilometers). This amount of activity helped reduce playground hassles,
increase kids’ learning readiness and fight obesity.
