Blessing of Easter Food Baskets

Blessing of Food Baskets and Easter Vigil Mass

St. Vincent Pallotti Parish invites you to the following Holy Week activities:

The blessing of the food baskets is a wonderful practice. Many parishes still participate in this custom of the blessing of the Easter food or baskets.
Traditionally your basket contains decorated hard boiled eggs (representing Christ's Resurrection), lamb shaped butter or sugar (representing Christ as the "Lamb of God"), bread (symbolic of Jesus as the "Bread of Life), ham (symbolic of great joy and abundance), sausage (symbolic of God's favor and generosity), salt (symbolic of prosperity and justice and to remind us "You are the salt of the earth"), horseradish and pepper (symbolic of the Passion of Christ and the bitter herbs of the Passover). A white candle is often inserted into the basket to represent Christ as the "Light of the World". Lastly, the basket is covered with linen symbolizing the covering of Christ's shroud. You can add any additional items you'd like, to make it special for your family.
The food is then taken home after it is blessed and eaten for breakfast on Easter Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Join us at St. Patrick Church, 135 Superior Blvd.,  on Saturday, April 19 at 12 noon to bless your baskets.

EASTER VIGIL MASS

Later on in the evening at 8PM on Saturday, April 19,  join us at St. Joseph Church, 344 Elm St. for the Easter Vigil mass.
