Love Is All There Is

Same-sex marriage is a very controversial issue which tends to also be very divisive. Individuals and institutions in our society have taken opposing points of view.

As a Christian and independent Roman Catholic clergyperson, I find myself searching my heart and soul so that I might better discern my belief and be faithful to it as I counsel and guide others.

I believe that faith grows from human reasoning, life's experiences, scripture, and the tradition and teachings of the Christian community through the ages.

On the surface, these sources only offer confusion, conflicting ideas, but also a bit of hope. I choose to cling to the hope that because we are all, gay and straight, made in the image and likeness of God that alone is sufficient to apply Jesus' message of faith, hope, and love to those in need.

We are ALL daughters and sons of a God Who is love and loves us unconditionally. God is not like us. God does not hate. God does not look at our sins. God is blind to all our imperfections. God loves diversity. Look how differently He made us.

So, this Wednesday, October 16, if Judge Friedman lifts the ban on same -sex marriages and I am asked to celebrate them, I will happily do so.

I guess I really do believe in the old cliche that love conquers all. It may take a while longer but, in the end, love will win and we will all be better off because of it.
