Sponsor the Wyandotte Farmers Market, Help Kids Eat Healthy

Wyandotte officials are seeking sponsors to help support The Power of Produce program at the Wyandotte Farmers Market.

Officials of the Wyandotte Farmers Market created a new program designed to get children to make healthy choices when eating.

The Power of Produce program launches this summer in Wyandotte. The program is already being implemented at farmers markets across the the US and Canada, according to a Wyandotte Downtown Development Authority (DDA) release.

City officials are seeking sponsors to help support the pilot program. Sponsors will receive recognition on program literature, signs and the market website.

In the free program, children ages five to 12 can register to receive token, which can be redeemed for fresh produce each week.

"As you are aware, this area has a high number of children who are eligible for the free and reduced lunch program through the schools, but programs to help these kids are very sparse in the summer," Natalie Rankine, DDA director, said in the release. "This program will help reinforce the importance of those healthy eating habits all year long."
