You've Got Photos: Third Friday BBQ Ribs Throwdown

Steve Mikhail of Nanna's Kitchen won first prize in Mayor Peterson's 3rd Annual Barbeque Ribs Throwdown.

The streets of downtown Wyandotte sizzled Friday night as heated up the monthly Third Friday celebration.

The ribs competition was held at Sycamore and Biddle, where visitors had a chance to eat some barbeque, hear live music, have a few drinks and enjoy the perfect weather. 

Third Friday revelers filled all of downtown, checking out booths set up by businesses and organizations, visiting shops and taking free trolley and carriage rides.

In the ribs competition, first prize went to the entry from owner Steve Mikhail. Although the Nanna’s Kitchen menu currently does not feature ribs, Mikhail said he might consider making it an option now.

Second place went to the ribs entered by , which also captured second in last year's competition. The bar is owned by Edward Sollars.

Third place was awarded to Trenton’s Pit Master Barbeque, which was and is owned by Cornell Sample.

Trenton’s captured the People’s Choice Award and also is a winner of a for best barbeque.

A panel of judges made their decisions Friday night based on the ribs' appearance, aroma, color, taste, tenderness and texture.

The panel featured executive chefs, college culinary instructors, a doctor, Wyandotte Councilman Todd Browning and Wyandotte Mayor Joseph Peterson.

Also at the competition was U.S. Rep. John Dingell (D-15th District), who helped recognize each of the winners.
