Is it Spring yet?

Spring is fighting off the last remnants of Winter, and it is finally beginning to show!

Even with a few days of high temperatures in the 60's over the last month, "is it Spring yet?" is still the question on many people's minds. Spring so far has been mostly cloudy, a little damp, and has had temps well below what we should be seeing for this time of year.

If you are in dire need of Springtime weather right this moment, its not far away at all! Just hop on southbound I-75 and drive for about 2 hours. That should put you right around Findlay, OH, where high temps should be reaching into the low 70's today, along with severe thunderstorm chances.

Why such a dramatic temperature difference? A stationary front is the culprit.

"What's a stationary front?" You may ask. Well, its just what it sounds like. A weather front that isn't moving with warm air on one side and cooler air on the other. Our friendly stationary front is currently parked right near the Ohio Turnpike, leaving us on the cold side of things, but also leaving us right in the path of any and all waves of precipitation that are traveling along it. This is why we could, and will likely see so much rain between now and Friday. Here in the Downriver area, we've been lucky so far with most of yesterdays drenching rain staying well off to our North. Things have already started to change this afternoon with heavy rain and thunderstorms moving through the area. We could see another round of heavy rain and strong storms once again tonight as well.

Some of the computer forecast models are calling for up to 4.5 inches of rain around the area. I don't think we will see that much here Downriver, but further north shouldn't have an issue getting close to that amount by the time things are all said and done.

Checking out the extended forecast, looks like things will be cooling down once again into the low to mid 40's (a good 10 degrees below average.) Not to worry though, we should be back up to normal by the start of next week.
