Healthy Blood Test Results

Take a look at some healthy blood test results that you can strive for.

I went to the doctor the other day as just a thing I like to do every couple of years and ended up coming away with some healthy blood test results.

I was happy to see that the previous healthy blood test results held firm from when I had them done two years ago.

So here we go with the big one that tends to be the “bench press” of healthy blood test results:

Triglycerides:  50

HDL:  67

My HDL from 2 years ago was 59 and went up to 67.  That’s the good stuff and you want that high.

But, I’ve heard it both ways that it’s great to keep this around 60 or so and that anything over that isn’t that much more helpful than it being around 60.  In other words, 60 tends to be the upper limits on how helpful HDL really is and that anything over that doesn’t necessarily give you any more of an advantage than having it at 60.  However, I haven’t seen anything to suggest that it’s harmful to have it above 60.

My LDL from 2 years ago was 65.  So it’s up now a bit from two years ago but still, quite a bit below the optimal amount of 100 (although, for me, I’m a natural perfectionist so I’m a bit annoyed that it jumped 16 points but, I’m not totally alarmed).

The triglycerides only jumped a negligible amount of 5 points from 2 years ago and still way below the 150 where you have to start getting concerned.

Overall when it comes to the cholesterol, I think I’ve come out with some healthy blood test results.

Now onto the blood glucose.

My fasting blood glucose this time around is 82.  Two years ago it was 89.  So it’s still right around the same.  For me, blood glucose is always a concern since I have a history of diabetes on both sides of my family so I tend to pay attention to this one more closely than probably most of my other healthy blood test results.

All my other results were well within the normal range.  White blood cells were good.  Red blood cell count was good.  Creatinine was good to go.  Hemoglobin was in range as well.

My rest pulse was around 80 and that was about what it normally is.

The one thing that I was kind of alarmed by at the time of the appointment was my blood pressure.  It was around 88/68.  That’s surprisingly low.  Two years ago when I had it taken I was around 108/68, which is really good.

So I’m not sure if that was just a strange blip or something that I should be concerned about.  I’ll admit that I was feeling a bit odd at the time of the appointment and that may explain why I was feeling that way.  I ate a bagel a couple of hours before the appointment but that was it so that could have been it as well.

Regardless, I might invest in a blood pressure gauge to check myself from time to time during the day to see if I can find a pattern (again, it’s that crazy natural desire for perfection).

Overall though, these are some healthy blood test results and quite frankly I’m glad to see that being in my late 30′s I’m still well within range and don’t have any red flags as I head into my forties.
