Updates: Retired Wyandotte Principal, Music Teacher Don Noble Dies at 73

Donald "Don" Noble, who retired in 1999 as music teacher for Wyandotte Public Schools, died Saturday.

Retired principal and music teacher for Wyandotte Public Schools Donald "Don" Noble died Saturday. He was 73 years old.

Don began his career with Wyandotte Public Schools in 1965 as the orchestra director at Roosevelt High School. He also taught strings at Wilson Middle School and Lincoln Middle School.

Three years later, Don became principal of McKinley Elementary School, where he also served as title I director until 1988.

Don continued to teach elementary music until his retirement in 1999. 

"Don Noble was a wonderful educator, whose love of music was shared with students, staff members, and the community," said Carla Harting, superintendent of Wyandotte Public Schools. He was always willing to provide assistance to anyone in need. His welcoming manner always made him a favorite of students."

Don's wife, Rachel, is a retired music teacher at Wyandotte Public Schools and his son, Mike, is currently a music teacher at Garfield, Jefferson, and Monroe elementary schools.

"Don’s family, including his wife, children, and grandchildren, continue to carry on the excellent tradition of the importance of music in education," Harting said. This will be a tribute to his memory. He will be missed."

A memorial visitation will be held on April 4 from 1 to 7 p.m. at the R. J. Nixon Funeral Home, 2544 Biddle Avenue, in Wyandotte. Memorial Services will follow the visitation at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m.

Don's family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to the "Don Noble Memorial Instrument Fund" at Wyandotte Public Schools. Make checks payable to the "Wyandotte Band Boosters" and send them to Cindy Duda, 2646 21st St., Wyandotte.
