Being a Good Neighbor Can Get Wyandotte Residents Up to $500

A recent incident of graffiti spray painted on Wyandotte properties has some Patch readers calling for a neighborhood watch program.

Chief Daniel Grant of the Wyandotte Police Department said the best way to combat graffiti incidents is to be a watchful neighbor.

Grant said being a good neighbor can result in up to a $500 reward for tips leading to an arrest in cases of graffiti and damage to property.

A recent graffiti incident on 6th and Kings Highway has some residents on high-alert.

Patch reader Nicole Csont-Schram said the graffiti consisted of gang signs, threats and vulgar words.

Photos of the incident were posted on Wyandotte Patch. The photos garnered comments from several readers interested in beginning a neighborhood watch program in Wyandotte.

Reader April Smith Ciolec commented, "Need to start a neighborhood watch and nip this in the bud. That is terrible. Probably little gangsta wannabe's."

While some residents are calling the recent incident gang related, Grant ins't so sure. He said Wyandotte does not have a "serious problem with gangs."

"We need the help from the public to keep their eys and ear open, and if they see something to call the police right away," Grant said.
