City Finds House 'Unfit for Human Occupancy' During Search for Missing Wyandotte Girl

Police and city officials became aware of the condition of the house while searching for a 15-year-old Wyandotte girl reported missing June 1, according to The News-Herald.

A rental house in the 600 block of Lincoln Street in Wyandotte was deemed "unfit for human occupancy' after city officials found feces and garbage inside the house at about 11 a.m. June 5.

Assistant City Engineer Gregory Mayhew said the house did not have running water or electricity. He also said furniture inside the house, carpets and tile floors were soiled, and the refrigerator was not functioning and filled with rotting food.

Grass in the rear yard was about 12-16 inches tall, according to Mayhew.

City officials became aware of the condition of the house while searching for a 15-year-old Wyandotte girl who was reported missing June 1, according to The News-Herald.

The News-Herald reported a Wyandotte police officer called the house a "house of ill fame" because officers were called to the house on several occasions "regarding groups of teenagers hanging out, fighting, drinking and using drugs."

Mayhew said the property owner has 30 days to clean up the house and restore water and electrical functions.

"We would like to see a professional company clean and sanitize the house and present an invoice and report from the company indicating what they did," Mayhew said.

He added, the only activity allowed on the property should be efforts to get the house back up to an acceptable condition.

Zoie Rayne Mulheisen, 15, of Wyandotte, was reunited with her grandmother and legal guardian at about 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Wyandotte Police Department.
