The man tied his boat to a buoy in the river near the Wyandotte Shores Golf Course and waited for emergency personnel.

A boater in distress is safe after several agencies including the Wyandotte Fire Department responded to a flare shot into the air at about 10 p.m. May 30.

Wyandotte firefighters contacted the U.S. Coast Guard and the Wayne County Sheriff's Department to rescue the boater.

Carley said the boater's motor had stopped functioning and the boat began to drift down the Detroit River. The man tied his boat to a buoy in the river near the Wyandotte Shores Golf Course.
