Police Arrest Man After Vehicle Crash, Foot Pursuit

Police chase suspect through backyards of residential neighborhood.

Structural damage was caused to Studio One Photography in Wyandotte Wednesday afternoon when a driver fleeing police lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the southwest side of the building, police said.

The suspect, an 18-year-old Detroit man, was traveling 45 to 50 mph westbound on Oak Street when officers initiated pursuit. The Lincoln immediately accelerated, the report said, and attempted to turn south on 12th Street before it left the roadway and struck the building.

Police chased the man on foot through backyards, over three fences and into an alleyway on Maple Street where he was apprehended, Wyandotte Police Sgt. Chuck Seeley said.

At one point, the suspect retreated into one of the yards and tried to hide his coat in an air conditioning unit, the report said.

Police used a Taser gun to take down the man, although there were no signs of injury or probe wounds, police said.  A male passenger, 18, was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.

The suspect was arrested for felony fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of an accident, obstructing arrest and driving with a suspended license. 

No one at the store was injured.
