Police Kick in Door Nailed Shut from the Inside, Find Man Watching TV

A 40-year-old man who police found inside a vacant house had been kicked out of a friend's house two days earlier for drinking.

Wyandotte police had to kick in a second-story door that had been nailed shut from the inside when they investigated a report of a trespasser in a vacant house in the 900 block of Elm Street the afternoon of April 8.

Once inside, they found a 40-year-old man sitting on the couch watching television, The News-Herald reports. The man, who police said smelled of intoxicants, explained that he had been kicked out of a friend’s house two days earlier and had no place to go. A bottle of vodka was nearby.

The woman, who lives nearby in the 1000 block of Elm, said she had allowed the man to live in her house for about a month, but evicted him because of drinking.

The woman who had reported the incident to police said she had seen the man panhandling, then observed him entering the vacant house through the back door.

The man was arrested on trespassing charges.
