Police Seeking Three Persons of Interest in Break-in at Wyandotte Bicycle Shop

Two bikes were stolen from Cycle Connection and more than $3,000 of damage occurred during a July 7 break-in. Police are seeking three young men in the case.

The owner of is hoping store surveillance videos can help solve a July 7 break-in where two 20" BMX-style bicycles were stolen and more than $3,000 of damage was left behind.

The surveillance videos, recorded during business hours and during the crime, contain images of three unidentified young men who police are considering persons of interest. Wyandotte Patch is not running the video as it appears the suspects could be minors.

Store owner John Keathley said the missing bikes are a white Kink Barrier and a black Eastern Traildigger. The latter, he said, is unique because some of the parts, such as the rims, are painted red. The bikes are worth about $900.

The thieves broke two windows to get inside the business. Once inside, they ripped store carpet, busted a wall and damaged other bikes.

“They really tore up a lot of stuff,” Keathley said.

After seeing the break-in on the store surveillance tape, employees said they recognized those involved and scoured over previous surveillance tapes to find clearer images of the guys, Police Chief Daniel Grant said.

"The owner recognized them as previous customers, but didn’t know their names," Grant said.

Since the crime occurred, Keathley said, several tips have come in and he is confident those responsible will eventually be caught.

“We’ve had some really good information from the videos," he said. “We’ve gotten some really good leads. It’s just a matter of putting the points together.”

If the suspects are not identified in the next few weeks, Keathley said, he plans to distribute digital copies of the surveillance tape to local school administrators in hopes of securing their help.

The store is offering a reward of an undisclosed amount for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
