‘We Need Nationwide Attention’: Family Petitions for Amber Alert

Two weeks after her decomposing body was found on Detroit’s west side, Alicia Fox’s survivors have launched a petition on change.org asking Michigan State Police to issue an Amber Alert to help find her missing chidlren.

“We need nationwide attention,” wrote a user named Ivory Doe, who posted the petition. “We need to find these babies.”

Police declined to use the Amber Alert emergency response system to find the children, 6-year-old Kaylah Hunter and 8-month-old Kristian Justice, who haven’t been seen since May 24.

Friends and relatives combed the woods of River Rouge Park and surrounding residential areas looking for clues that would lead them to the children last week.

Fox’s husband, Erin Justice, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the children’s mother’s death. He is awaiting extradition from Georgia, where he was arrested June 11, two days after Fox’s body was discovered.

At a news conference after Justice’s arrest, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said authorities’ No. 1 priority was finding the children, but said an Amber Alert, which wasn’t issued due in part to the amount of time that had lapsed before they were reported missing, “would not have helped” locate them.

Pictures of the children have been disseminated as far away as Atlanta and through the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
