What Neighbor Smelled Wasn't As Awful As What He Found: Watch

A pleasant Friday afternoon on Detroit's west side turned gruesome when the neighbor followed his nose.

A severed head, foot and torso discovered Friday at a vacant house on Freeland Street are being tested by the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office to obtain possible fingerprints and determine identification.

They were discovered by a neighbor about 5:30 p.m. Friday. Detroit police told WDIV, Channel 4, that the man smelled something foul and went to investigate. The head, foot and torso were stuffed in buckets, buried and partially covered with concrete.

Sgt. Michael Woody told the Detroit Free Press the body parts may belong to a squatter who had been living at the vacant house.
