Woman, 20, Reportedly Stabs Classmate, 54, Over Group Assignment

Wayne County officials say a 20-year-old student is in custody after she allegedly stabbed another student, a 54-year-old man, in a disagreement about a group assignment.

The altercation occurred about 6 p.m. Monday on the Wayne County Community College District campus in northwest Detroit, where both are students, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The female student, whose name has not been released, reportedly ran toward the man as he tried to leave the classroom, punched him in the head and back, then stabbed with a knife that had a 9-inch blade, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The male student sustained minor injuries to the top of his head, but was not hospitalized. The female student was taken into custody and is being held in the Wayne County Jail. When police arrested her, they found a bag of marijuana in her purse, according to the news release.

Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon said such occurrences are rare on the normally peaceful campus.

“This is a very peaceful campus,” he said, according to a WXYZ, Channel 7, report. “This is an isolated incident. It certainly is not indicative of the kind of things we see on this campus.
