Wyandotte Firefighters Rescue Teen from House Fire

The fire was one of two the Wyandotte Fire Department battled Sunday morning.

Wyandotte firefighters rescued a teenager from the second floor of a burning house at 303 Oak St. early Sunday morning.

The teen, and his teenage brother, were home alone when a fire started in the kitchen, according to Wyandotte Fire Chief Jeffery Carley.

"One of the brothers attempted to extinguish the kitchen fire with a fire extinguisher. When he was unable to do that, he exited the building," Carley said. "The other brother was trapped on the second floor and was rescued by fire service personnel."

Both teens sustained minor injuries and smoke inhalation and were treated by paramedics at the scene, Carley said. The teens did not require a trip to the hospital.

The extent of damage was not reported.

Wyandotte firefighters were at the scene of an earlier fire when the Oak Street call came in.

In the earlier incident, firefighters responded around 4 a.m. to a blaze in a vacant building at 898 Walnut St., according to Carley.

"At this time, it is being considered an arson" and being investigated, Carley said.
