Wyandotte Man Fights Off Pit Bulls with Weed Trimmer

The 62-year-old man escaped getting bitten, but injured himself when he fell and scraped his elbow.

Dave Sledge had to fight off dogs a couple times when he worked as a letter carrier, but the scariest situation occurred right in his own driveway.

The 62-year-old Wyandotte man said he suddenly found himself surrounded by three pit bulls as he did lawn work at his house in the 300 block of Fourth St. on May 5.

Using a weed trimmer as a weapon, he was able to keep the dogs at bay long enough until they were called off by a girl a couple houses away. The dogs belonged to the girl's family.

While he was able to keep from being bitten, Sledge did injure himself when he fell onto the cement and scraped his elbow as he was backing up from the dogs.
