An unknown person struck two teenage girls crossing the street at Poplar and Biddle on Monday.

The is seeking the public's help in locating a driver involved in a hit-and-run this week in Wyandotte.

The accident took place on Monday around 7:05 p.m. when, according to Traffic Officer Brian Zalewski, two teenage girls were struck by a car while crossing the street at the intersection of Poplar and Biddle, near the Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital.

Zalewski said the driver was traveling west on Poplar and hit the girls–age 14 and 15–as they were crossing Poplar. They were crossing "where they were supposed to" on the crosswalk, he added.

The 15-year-old girl was from Trenton, and the 14-year-old girl was from River Rouge.

One girl was knocked to the ground, while the other was thrown onto the hood and windshield of the car. Both were taken to Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn for treatment. The first girl was released, while the second is still being treated for a broken clavicle, dislocated shoulder and head injury, for which she received "more than 10 stitches," Zalewski said.

Four people witnessed the hit-and-run, and two of them attempted to follow the car and obtain a license plate number. Zalewski said that a search showed that the plate came up as a stolen dealer plate out of Flat Rock.

The car was described as an older model tan Buick with a dark brown top. The car's windshield was smashed in the accident.

Witnesses described the driver as a white female in her 50s with gray, short, straight hair.

Zalewski said that knowledge about the accident is confined to those witness descriptions.

"Other than that we have nothing," he said. "But someone's going to know this lady or know what this car looks like."

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to call Zalewski at 734-324-4428.
