Clerk: Recount Won't Be Sought in Close Wyandotte Election

Kevin VanBoxell lost a seat on the Wyandotte City Council by seven votes.

Kevin VanBoxell lost a bid for the Wyandotte City Council by seven votes in Tuesday's election and has decided not to challenge the results, City Clerk William Griggs said.

"He has indicated to me that he will not be requesting a recount," Griggs said Wednesday afternoon.

VanBoxell couldn't be reached for immediate comment.

Ten people ran for six seats on the council.

Ted Miciura Jr. came in sixth place with 1,242 votes, narrowly beating VanBoxell, who received 1,235 votes.

As standard procedure, a local canvassing board met Wednesday morning to certify Tuesday night's election results. The certification was done with no discrepancies found, leading the numbers to stay as they were announced Tuesday night, Griggs said.
