Grant Pays for New Basketball Courts in Wyandotte

Improvements are on tap in the spring at Pulaski Park and Memorial Park.

Those who use the basketball courts at and will see noticeable improvements next year.

The city has received a $56,000 grant from Wayne County Parks to build new courts in city parks.

City officials choose Pulaski and Memorial as those are the two most needing repairs, said Tim Beaker, interim superintendent of recreation.

A new cement court will be laid, along with new rims installed and a fresh paint job. The work is set to be completed in the spring.

Pulaski has two courts and Memorial has one.

“If you look at Pulaski, those two courts are side by side, but are two different sizes,” Beaker said. “And they’re quite cracked. … There’s a big crack running up the middle of the court at Memorial, too. It’s a trip hazard.”

Beaker said his department is always appreciative of grant dollars.

“The courts are well used during the summer,” he said. “You see a lot of neighborhood kids and high school students down there practicing and playing. It’ll be nice to fix them up.”
