Today is the Deadline to Register to Vote in November

Wyandotte residents wishing to vote on the 1.75-mill tax increase must be registered today.

Today is the deadline to become a registered voter in order to cast a ballot on Nov. 8.

The only local issue facing voters is .

If approved, it is expected to generate about $1 million in revenue in the first year. That money will help offset an estimated $1.4 million budget shortfall.

If approved, the millage will cost the average homeowner about $85 a year for three years, according to City Administrator Todd Drysdale.

If the millage is defeated, officials said, drastic cuts would have to be made to city services.

A small, grassroots campaign by Citizens for Responsible Government in Wyandotte is encouraging voters to approve the millage. to absentee voters asking for their support.

“The city of Wyandotte will suffer drastic reductions in employees and services including police and fire unless you vote yes on the charter amendment,” the postcard reads. “Let’s work together to keep Wyandotte clean, safe and moving forward.”

To verify you are a registered voter, call the Wyandotte City Clerk's office at 1-734-324-4560. To register, stop in the clerk's office on the first floor of before 5 p.m.
