Wyandotte Employee Turns Part-Time Job Into Full-Time Career

The new superintendent of recreation for the City of Wyandotte started out working part-time during the summer.

Justin Lanagan of Wyandotte graduated from high school in 1996 and began looking for a job.

After he turned 18, he got a part-time seasonal position with the Wyandotte Department of Recreation, Leisure and Culture.

Sixteen years later, Lanagan was recently selected as superintendent of recreation.

"When I first started it seemed to be the protocol was that you can start at the ground level and, eventually, work your way up," Lanagan said.

Over the years, Lanagan said he's done it all. He's chalked baseball fields, lined soccer fields and worked in offices.

Lanagan credits his experience for his new-found role as superintendent and is glad he decided to stay with the job throughout the years.

"It just goes to show that if you stick with it long enough, hard work will pay off, and that's what happened with me," Lanagan said.
