Wyandotte Mayor Joseph Peterson said he's disappointed to see Pischke go, but understands the necessity of the move.

"When better jobs come up out of state, especially with the economy the way it is, I understand that you have to take them," Peterson said. "I wish Fred and his family the best of luck. He’s been a great guy for us to have around."

Pischke had just been given a three-year extension to his contract in June. Soon after, in order to partially fund a position that was set to be cut from his department during this year's budget negotiations.

Peterson said he plans to meet with members of the Recreation Commission on Tuesday. No decision has yet been made in filling the position.

"All options are open," Peterson said. "There's a lot to be discussed and his sudden departure leaves open a lot of possibilities. We'll take a look to see where we go from here. ...

"We have until Sept. 22 to decide if we want to fill the position or what we want to do. I don't see us filling it that quickly with just a two-week notice, but we have a talented city administrator and other employees who can fill in until we come to a decision."

Pischke said he plans to go back to college to earn a teaching certificate in North Carolina.
