Cheating Pact: Entire Class Scores 100 Percent on Exam

One student admitted to snapping a picture of an exam answer key, then circulating it in a text message to other students.

Officials at a Downriver high school thought it was suspicious when the entire junior class scored 100 percent score on a final exam.

They were right.

Their investigation revealed that two members of the junior class at Anderson High School in Southgate snuck into a classroom while the teacher was in the hallway, took photos of the exam answer key with their cell phones, and then sent out a group message showing the photos to their classmates, Superintendent Leslie Hainrihar told WWJ/CBS Local.

Hainrihar said two students admitted to having been instigators in the cheating pact.

“One maintains that they only used it for themselves, the other said that they took the picture and shared it with other students,” she said.

Now, the entire class is facing the consequences: Their summer vacation will be interrupted while they go back to school and retake the exam.

Hainrihar said it’s the most egregious case of student cheating she’s ever seen.

“These kids were in the eleventh grade – clearly they knew that what they were doing was wrong,” she told WWJ. “I’m a little disappointed that they would choose to not only take a picture of an answer key but then share it globally. It’s disappointing that at this age we have to have that conversation with them.”

Disciplinary action will be taken, the superintendent said.
