Wyandotte Business Could Take Over District Busing at Wyandotte Public Schools

School Superintendent Carla Harting told Patch outsourcing busing would not result in the loss of any district jobs.

District officials have selected a transportation company based in Wyandotte to take over district busing at Wyandotte Public Schools.

Trinity Transportation, 4624 13th Street, was selected among two other transportation companies that responded to a request for proposal sent out in April. DHT Transportation in Detroit and First Student in Cincinnati, OH also submitted proposals.

A review committee consisting of district administrators, board members and parents will make the recommendation to enter into a three-year contract with Trinity expiring in 2016.

The annual cost for outsourcing district busing through Trinity was estimated to be about $275,000 for the 2013-14 school year, $283,000 for the 2014-15 school year and $292,000 for the 2015-16 school year.

The proposal includes the sale of the district's current bus fleet to Trinity for about $275,000.

Members of the Wyandotte Board of Education are expected to vote on the recommendation at a regularly scheduled board of education meeting at 7 p.m. June 4 on the second floor of the new Wyandotte City Hall, 3200 Biddle Ave.

School Superintendent Carla Harting told Patch outsourcing busing would not result in the loss of any district jobs. If board members vote to approve the recommendation, Harting said bus drivers would be placed in positions within the district's operations department.
