Kindergarten Roundup Is in Full Swing in Wyandotte

Wyandotte Public Schools is hosting several meetings for parents of children who will be 5 by Dec. 1.

Parents of soon-to-be-kindergartners: It’s time to think about that first day of school in September.

is hosting a series of meet-and-greets for parents of children who will be 5 by Dec. 1.

Parents will have a chance to tour the school and meet the kindergarten teacher, as well as other staff members. Registration packets also can be picked up or turned in, if already gotten from the school.

School Superintendent Carla Harting said attendance at kindergarten roundup is important for both the parents and the district.

“This helps us to know how many incoming kindergartners to expect, how many teachers we’ll need and all of the materials we’ll need for them,” she said. “It really helps us prepare for the fall.”

Incoming kindergartners will be the first set to attend full-day classes. Because of that, Harting said, she’s expecting the district will hire an additional four or five kindergarten teachers.

Here are the dates for kindergarten roundup:

  • , 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday
  • , 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday
  • , 1:30 and 5 p.m. April 3

While there are two sessions scheduled at each building, parents only need to attend one of them.

Here are the documents required at registration:

  1. Original birth certificate issued by a city, county or state entity
  2. Immunization record, including a vision check
  3. Three proofs of residency
  • Current Michigan driver’s license or Michigan identification card
  • Along with two additional proofs, which could be two different utility bills, a mortgage or lease agreement, a pay stub, etc.
