Washington Elementary said Tuesday that two males tried coaxing a female student into a black four-door Jeep parked near 14th and Superior as she was leaving school.

In a letter to parents,  the student reported that the men "tried to call for her to come over to the car, stating that her parent had sent them to pick her up."

The student did not recognize the men, and knew that her parent had not sent anyone to pick her up, the school said.  Afraid, the student ran to the building and found a parent that was able to assist her while she informed the office of the situation.

Wyandotte police were notified and took a report of the incident.  The police said that they are investigating and will be monitoring the area and situation, the school said.

"She did exactly what we tell students to do," Wyandotte school Superintendent Carla Harting said. "Come to the school and report it to adults. We're asking parents to reinforce this with their children."

This is the second incident in less than two weeks that involved a student reporting a possible abduction attempt.

Patch reader Heather Ramirez, in a comment on the story today, said that the abduction attempt  happened around 3:15 p.m., about 30 minutes after school ended. “My husband was waiting for our fourth grader to get out, when the student ran crying back to the school,” Ramirez wrote.

The student told Ramirez’s husband that she didn't know whom the two men yelling for her to get in the car were. “He told (the men) she didn't know them and that she wasn't going with them.” He then helped her into the school, she said.

In both cases, the student’s were unable to provide detailed descriptions of the suspects. However, both victims told police they were approached by men driving four-door vehicles.

On Dec. 6, an 11-year-old student at Wilson Middle School, was walking south on 16th Street toward Antoine, when a gray four-door vehicle occupied by two males stopped in her vicinity. The front seat passenger lowered his window, and motioned his hand for her to come over. The student became frightened and ran to school, Wyandotte Police Inspector James Pouliot said.
