Accomplishment: For more than six years, Mitch Kittle has dreamed of attending the United States Military Academy at West Point. On Monday, Kittle accepted his appointment to West Point and will be reporting for duty on June 27.
Key to Awesomeness: Kittle credits his 3.8 grade point average and advanced placement courses for earning entry to West Point. He believes his AP courses taught him to study, work hard and think differently. He also says his experience as an Eagle Scout, playing football and rowing helped him become a well-rounded person.
Kittle marched in President Obama's inaugural parade with the Wyandotte Marching Chiefs in 2008. He met then-Gov. Jennifer Granholm last year when she visited Roosevelt. For the fourth year, Kittle is serving as his class president. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the .
Camping is one of Kittle's favorite things to do. He loves the outdoors. His favorite subject is history, specifically American history. When he has spare time, Kittle says, he enjoys being a normal teenager, having fun and hanging out with friends.
He is the son of Mary and Chuck Kittle Jr. of Wyandotte. He has an older sister, Megan, who attends the University of Michigan in Dearborn.
In the future, Kittle plans to graduate from West Point and serve in the Army for 20 years before retiring to become an emergency manager.
"I am extremely excited to attend West Point because this has been my dream for over six years," Kittle said. "Everything I have done has been to prepare me to attend West Point."
