Following the Rules Means a Water Balloon to the Head at Wilson Middle School in Wyandotte

The Positive Rehavior Intervention Program at Wilson Middle School rewards students who don't receive office referrals.

Administrators and teachers at Wilson Middle School in Wyandotte seek to change the idea that only squeaky wheels get the oil or, in this case, the water balloon.

Students who did not receive an office referral during the final months of the 2012-13 school year were rewarded with an outdoor celebration featuring several attractions.

"We tend to focus on the kids that don't do the right thing," Principal Jason Krajewski said. "This is a way to focus on the kids that do the right thing."

Students played games, bounced in bounce castles, snacked on popsicles and had water balloons dropped on their heads--for fun.

Despite the overcast, students lined up to get an opportunity to throw tennis balls at a metal target attached to a long arm with a large pin on the end. The pin was set inches from large blue water balloons, which, when the target was struck, became punctured by the pin dropping water on a fellow student's head.

Rewards were part of the Positive Behavior Intervention Support program at the middle school.
