Wyandotte Marching Chiefs to Backup Kid Rock at Ford Field Thanksgiving Day Halftime Show

The Wyandotte marching band will play on the field at halftime of the Detroit Lions vs. Houston Texans game.

The news keeps getting more exciting for the Wyandotte Marching Chiefs.

Earlier in the week, the Wyandotte Roosevelt marching band was invited to play the halftime show of the traditional Thanksgiving Day Detroit Lions game at Ford Field.

On Friday, the Detroit Lions announced the national recording artist that the Wyandotte Marching Chiefs would be playing backup to -- Michigan's own Kid Rock.

The halftime event will feature a live performance of Kid Rock’s new song, “Detroit, Michigan,” a feature track from his new album “Rebel Soul,” which will be released Nov. 19. The song pays homage to several of Detroit’s music greats, including Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Bob Seger and Eminem in addition to icons like Henry Ford and Rosa Parks. The halftime show also will celebrate the 125th anniversary of the United Way by thanking the millions of donors, advocates and volunteers who, over the years, have helped to advance the group's focus on education, income and health.

The Thanksgiving Day football game begins at 12:30 p.m. and features the Lions taking on the Houston Texans.

Mark D’Angelo, Roosevelt’s instrumental music director, said representatives from the California-based company producing the show contacted him and asked the band to perform.

“It’s a pretty huge honor,” he said.

D’Angelo said he believes his band was asked based to perform due to attention it's received over the years after performing at several local and national events, including the Indianapolis 500 and the 2009 inaugural parade for President Barack Obama in Washington D.C.
