Wyandotte School Board Names 2012-13 Officers

Robert Kirby, who served as vice president last year, is now the board president.

members named their new officers for the 2012-13 school year during Tuesday night's organization meeting.

Robert Kirby was named president. Chris Calvin will serve as vice president, Patrick Sutka as secretary and Stephanie Miello as treasurer.

Kirby is starting his 12th year on the board.

"I love being on the board," he said. "I believe we are making a difference."

Calvin is beginning his fourth year on the board.

"Its been really refreshing working with this board," he said. "The things we've accomplished and the new people we've brought in ... has been exciting."

Sutka also is embarking on his fourth year on the board.

"I'm very happy to continue to serve on the board," he said. "I am pleased with my fellow board members and the administration. ... I look forward to continue to work through our challenges together."

Miello, the newest board member, is beginning her second year.

"I'm happy to be here," she said.

The other three school board members–Kathy Bedikian, Dana Browning and Michael Swiecki–serve as trustees.

Bedikian is starting her eighth year on the board.

"I very much enjoy being on the school board," she said. "I believe in the public education system. I think we're going to have a lot of challenges in the future and we're going to have a lot of work to do."

Browning is starting her sixth year on the board.

"This has been a big blessing in my life, serving our children," she said.

Swiecki said he's been on the board for about 20 years, or as he described it, "since shortly after Noah sold the ark."

"I find it an honor and a pleasure to serve the children and the district of Wyandotte," he said. "I find it a wonderful way to give back."
