City to Host Parade in Honor of State Champ Wyandotte Roosevelt Bears Hockey Team

Roosevelt High School also will hold a pep rally for students and parents.

The city will host a parade Friday in honor of the Bears hockey team winning the school's first Saturday.

Wayne County Commissioner Joseph Palamara, whose district includes Wyandotte, announced the parade at a legislative forum Monday afternoon.

The parade will begin at 6 p.m. and will march down Sycamore east to Biddle to Elm. The Wyandotte Marching Chiefs will lead the festivities. Attendees and those along the parade route are encouraged to wear blue and gold to show their support for the team.

Roosevelt High School students dressed in blue and gold are encouraged to march in the parade. Those who wish to participate should meet at the parking lot at 5:30 pm.

Due to the parade, Biddle Avenue from Eureka to Elm will be closed to traffic from 5 t0 9 p.m. Friday, which has been declared Wyandotte Bears Hockey Day in the city.

The parade also kicks off the city's monthly where local merchants stay open late and offer specials to customers.

After the parade, Daly Merritt Insurance Agency is hosting an invitation-only dinner for the players at .

On the day before the parade, will host an afternoon pep rally for its students and parents.

The rally will begin at 1:55 p.m. Thursday in the school gymnasium. The marching band will set things off with the school fight song, followed by the choir singing the national anthem, Principal Patrick Hickey said. Coaches of all winter sports will then introduce their varsity athletes and talk about their accomplishments this season, Hickey said. The assembly will end with a tribute to the hockey team.

Hickey said it's "a good time to be principal right now."

"We’ re all very excited about the hockey team's successes," he said. "I’m really proud of their hard work. As a principal, I'm happy to see our fans, our parents and our community coming together to support these teams. That’s what this community always does for all of our teams. It’s exciting."
