JP Swint Wins City Championship Golf Tournament

The Wyandotte man was honored with a trophy at Monday's City Council meeting.

A former Wyandotte Roosevelt Bears hockey goalie proved recently that he's talented on more places than just the ice.

JP Swint, a 2005 graduate, is the 2011 winner of the City Championship golf tournament.

Swint, 24, was honored with a trophy at Monday night’s City Council meeting. The trophy, now engraved with his name, is on display at the golf course.

The tournament is open to Wyandotte residents who have no more than a 20 handicap.

The top eight players from day one move on to day two, where they play in a match play, one-on-one style.

Swint had a rough first day, barely qualifying to move on, according to

But then on day two, he kicked things into gear and beat out seven other players, one by one. One of the matches had him paired against Kris Belcher, who won the inaugural City Championship title in 2009.

Swint was on the Roosevelt golf team for all four years of high school and said he's enjoyed playing golf his entire life.
