Matt Runs Over Competition to Help Lead Undefeated Football Team

Hunter Matt needed only four rushing attempts Friday to score four touchdowns and pile up 140 yards on the ground en route to a 46-8 Wyandotte defeat of rival Trenton.

Senior running back Hunter Matt was literally unstoppable Friday night as defeated . On each of his four rushing attempts, the team co-captain scored a touchdown and totaled 140 yards on the ground. 

Matt’s performance gave him a season total of 6 touchdowns and 208 yards rushing, enough to lead the Bears in both categories.

On defense Friday, Matt also was a dominant presence at his inside linebacker position, consistently stopping the Trojans from moving the ball. He also took care of kickoff duties and buried several balls deep in Trenton territory.

Since the preseason, Wyandotte Coach Ron Adams has regularly praised Matt’s abilities and work ethic. Adams said Matt’s dedication and leadership are second to none.

Entering the 2011 season, Matt had already caught the attention of several college scouts based on his play at linebacker. He has received scholarship offers to play Division I football at Eastern Michigan University and The University of Akron.

Aside from football, Matt also is a at Roosevelt. As a junior last season, he was one of the best players in the entire Downriver League.

Away from the athletic field, Matt also has excelled in the classroom and currently carries a 3.6 grade point average. 

Take Five with Hunter Matt

1. Before football practice started in August, how did you spend your summer?

Before football started in August I spent my summer going to (football) camps and attending workouts so I could get better.

2. Is there any music you listen to before a game to help you get fired up?

Before games, I usually zone everybody out with my headphones on and listen to A Day to Remember and Five Finger Death Punch. All the songs I listen to just have the right words to get me ready.

3. Is there anyone who has had a strong, positive influence on your life?

My whole family has had a strong, positive influence on my life.

4. What is your favorite subject in school and why?

My favorite subject in school is accounting. Coach Flip (George Filipiak) teaches that class, so we get our work done and can talk about anything.

5. So far, what do you enjoy most about being a senior at Roosevelt?

Right now, while being a senior at Roosevelt, I enjoy knowing all of the teachers and taking everything in, knowing it's my last year there.
