Roosevelt Cheer Heads to State Championships Saturday

Wyandotte will face off against seven teams at 10 a.m. in Grand Rapids for the Division 2 title.

Wyandotte's Roosevelt High School varsity cheer team is headed to the Division 2 State Finals on Saturday, March 2, at the Grand Rapids DeltaPlex.

There, the Bears will compete against Allen Park, DeWitt, Divine Child, Gibraltar Carlson, Grand Rapids Christian, Mt. Pleasant and St. Joseph.

The competition starts at 10 a.m.

Gibraltar Carlson took home the state championship in 2011 and 2012. Wyandotte last qualified for states in 2008.

"Congratulations on states ladies," Ashlee Brust wrote on Wyandotte Cheerleading's Facebook page. "You earned it!!"

Roosevelt's cheer team took fourth place in the Division 2, Region 4 competitive cheer regionals on Feb. 16, coming in behind Divine Child, Gibraltar and Allen Park, according to Mlive.com.

"(The) regional competition was phenomenal; the girls shined," parent Laura Young said. "The fan support from their peers was awesome."

All performances from state finals will be archived at MHSAA.tv for on-demand viewing, and DVDs of the event can be ordered online from mhsaa.com.
