Roosevelt Rivals Hone Skills on Wyandotte's Turf

Wyandotte Roosevelt rivals took to the sand to prepare for the coming volleyball season.

Despite the obvious differences between sand and hardwood, the Trenton High School varsity volleyball team prepared for the coming season at a sandy court Friday.

The court, located at BASF Waterfront Park in Wyandotte, made the perfect sport for the team to hone their skills during the summer months when school is not in session.

The 20-acre park is open from dawn to dusk and sits along the Detroit River next to the Wyandotte Shores Golf Course. Wyandotte's largest park has look-out decks, rowing launch, trails, sand volleyball courts and an amphitheater, according to the City of Wyandotte website.

The Trojans took the sand under the watch-full eye of Trenton grad Alexis Charping, junior varsity head coach. Charping said the girls were preparing for the season, which includes a game against rivals Wyandotte Roosevelt High School.

Senior captain Aevah Heba and junior team leader Alexis Girvan helped Charping keep the practice fun and light.
