Roosevelt Wrestler Comes Back to Place 6th in State
Quentin Santiago rebounded after a first-round loss in the state wrestling tournament to take sixth place at the 135-pound bracket.
AUBURN HILLS – sophomore Quentin Santiago rebounded from a first-round loss in the state wrestling finals to win his next three matches, earn a spot in the consolation finals, and take sixth place in Division 1 in the 135-pound bracket.
Santiago's first-round loss came at the hands of Birmingham Seaholm's Tim List, who won by Fall at 2:57.
In his second match, on Friday morning, he had a back-and-forth with Grand Haven senior Allen Torres, the lead changing hands twice in the third round alone.
Santiago scored six points in the round to win a 13-10 decision.
"It was a very quick-paced match," Bears coach Brett Greene said. "But we had him (Torres) on his back more."
Greene was happy Santiago and his other state final's qualifier Cade Barwig bounced back after losing on Thursday.
"I hope they both come out with the same aggressiveness in their next match," he said on Friday.

Santiago did so, winning three in a row before running into Kaelan Richards of Rochester, who eventually placed third. Santiago's final match was a loss to Evan Hoshaw of Brighton.
Cade Barwig went on to lose his third match, to Zach Henderson of Hudsonville, after beating Spencer Plattner of Caledonia. His first-round loss was to Hartland's Austin Eicher, who went on to compete in the state title match at 119 pounds.
