Vote for the 2011 Wyandotte Patch Athlete of the Year

Nominees include basketball players, hockey players, cheerleaders, runners, football players, a tennis standout and a freshman swimmer.

2011 was full of amazing performances from athletes. Talented sports stars from the school shined on the field, on the court, in the pool, on the lanes and on the ice.

Throughout the year, Wyandotte Patch recognized these achievements with our Athlete of Week feature.

Now it’s your turn to decide who is the 2011 Wyandotte Patch Athlete of the Year.

Freshman Clare Sutka qualified for the state finals in the 100-yard backstroke event with a time of 1:03.62 at the Downriver League championship meet.

Junior Joey Loselle posted a 23-1 record to in No.1 singles play.

Senior Kayla Fitzsimmons stood out on a talented squad as one of the team’s best flyers and tumblers.

Sophomore Jake Coulter got out to solid start with a time of 18:44 in the team’s first meet, then later helped his squad qualify for the in Brooklyn, Michigan.

As a running back and kick return specialist, senior Tyler Dunn led his team with three touchdowns to start the season, a performance that was typical of his play in the 2011 season.

Hunter Matt was named a Patch Athlete of the Week twice in 2011 for his performance on the football field and . On the gridiron, he was considered one of the best linebackers in the state and will play at Eastern Michigan University next fall. As a junior on last year’s baseball team, he was one of the best hitters in the Downriver League.

2011 graduate Cara Smock specialized in long-distance running and posted a time of 11:27 in the two-mile, which was a school record.

As a freshman on the varsity track team, Adaysha Parker won the 100m, 200m, 400m and on April 12 at Woodhaven.

As a junior, Jake Carlisle scored four goals in the state quarterfinal game against Pinckney to help Wyandotte advance to the semifinals.

As starting goaltender, 2011 graduate Chase Schmittou gave up only one goal and made 47 saves in the .

2011 graduate Nolan Gage carried a 205 average on the 2010-11 bowling team and qualified for the singles division in the .

2011 graduate Gerald Mayhew led the state championship team with more than 100 points. He was later named and currently skates for the of the United States Hockey League.

Amelia Czarnota, as a sophomore, led the 2010-11 girls varsity basketball team in points for the season, averaging 11 per game.

As a sophomore on the 2010-11 bowling team, Lindsey Ragen carried a 161 average.

2011 graduate Brie Martin took part in competitive cheer for the third straight season in 2010-11 and helped lead the squad to a state rank of eighth in Division 2.

Serving as team co-captain of the boys 2010-11 team, the 2011 graduate led his squad to two early-season victories, scoring 21 points against Riverview and 26 against Grosse Ile.
