Wyandotte Figure Skaters Take the Ice at Regional Competition

Four skaters from Yack Arena are taking part in the Eastern Great Lakes Regionals in Ann Arbor.

Four figure skaters who skate out of Wyandotte's Yack Arena are competing this weekend at the Eastern Great Lakes Regionals in Ann Arbor.

The qualifying event, hosted by the Ann Arbor Figure Skating Club, is one of nine regional competitions around the country.

The four skaters who train in Wyandotte are Olivia Gapuz of Monroe, Lauren Harven of Woodhaven, Cameron Lindstrom of Wyandotte, and Allyson Trombley of Wyandotte.

Lindstrom and Trombley represent the Wyandotte Figure Skating Club; Gapuz and Harven represent the Heritage Skating Academy.  

“Skating at the Eastern Great Lakes Regional competition is an exciting opportunity for our skaters,” said Kim Cole, president of the Wyandotte Figure Skating Club. “They have all worked so hard to reach their goal of skating in this competition and everyone in our club and in the city of Wyandotte is proud of their accomplishments.”

The top four skaters in the ladies and men's events at each of the nine regional championships will qualify for one of three sectional championships. At all five competitive levels (senior, junior, novice, intermediate, juvenile), the top four finishers in each discipline at the sectional championships earn a berth to the 2013 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, taking place Jan. 18-27 in Omaha, NE.
