Wyandotte's SixthMan Video Doesn't Make Cut in Statewide Contest

Wyandotte finished in 9th place, but only the top five moved on in the Battle of the Fans contest.

Roosevelt High School's student section is filled with school pride, but those who make up the SixthMan will have to try again next year to be rewarded for their antics.

Wyandotte entered a video of their student section into the Michigan High School Athletic Association's second annual Battle of the Fans contest, but fell short in making the cut.

Wyandotte finished in 9th place out of 27 entries, but only the top five moved on in the contest.

Frankenmuth won last season’s inaugural “Battle of the Fans” and is again among this year's finalists, along with Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard, Buchanan, Vandercook Lake and Zeeland East.

“We were ecstatic with the positive buzz generated by last year’s contest, and this year’s got rolling quickly with a 42-percent increase in applicants,” Andy Frushour, MHSAA director of brand management, said in a press release. “We are thrilled to see the excitement students have generated at each and every one of those schools. They should be proud of their entries, and more importantly, proud of the positive impact they are having on their schools and student bodies.”

Roosevelt teacher Ron Adams said he's proud of the video and the overall positive atmosphere that the SixthMan has brought to his school.

"I don't know how stiff the competition is, but I think our kids put together a good video," he said. "I don't think that's going to deter them or take away their enthusiasm. They're already fired up and ready to go for tomorrow night's game. Our kids will handle it with class, just like they handle everything with class."
