The night of gut-busting food and fun is almost here.
Wyandotte Patch is joining forces with the to host from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at First and Elm.
Patch will be hosting a Coney Fest, featuring coneys from . The DDA will be hosting the comic portion of the night.
Throughout the night, there will be comic book heroes walking around, along with free comic book giveaways. Live entertainment also is on tap. There will be games and activities for the entire family.
Proceeds from "Comics and Coneys" will be split between and the . Volunteers from both groups will be in attendance. To entice the community's support, the first 25 people to make a donation of at least $5 at either charity's booth will receive an exclusive Patch swag item that won't be available elsewhere.
Here is a list of the highlights that will be available Friday night. Details are subject to change as the event draws nearer, so check back for the most up-to-date information.
All of the events listed below are free unless otherwise noted. A portion of the proceeds from all of the paid events will be split between the two charities.
Wyandotte Patch: Stop by to spin our prize wheel where everyone walks away a winner. You also can play Plinko to win raffle tickets for one of three prize packs.
: Kids can stop by here for all sorts of fun and prizes. There will be a craft table where children can draw small pieces of a comic, which will be strung together at the end of the night to make a long comic strip. Kids also can color “Art,” the 2012 Wyandotte Street Art Fair mascot. Superhero masks and comic-related crafts also will be available.
: Get your delicious grub here. Coneys are $2 each or enjoy a combo for $4, which includes a coney, bag of chips and pop.
: Some of their supporters will be hard to recognize as they’ll be dressed up as comic book superheroes. Kids (and adults, too) can pose for photos with them. Kids also can strike out at the Blessings’ booth by bowling on their four-lane alley.
: The music heard during the event will be courtesy of the veterans, who are hosting DJ Jay Rainey. He’ll be spinning tunes from the 50s, 60s and 70s throughout the night.
: Representatives from will be offering five-minute chair massages. The massages are free, but donations for charity will be accepted.
Airborne Bouncers: Take flight on a trampoline and bungee jumping unit. It’s sure to be a hit for the whole family. This is a paid attraction.
: The famed Wyandotte artist will be sketching onsite and giving away drawings to kids. He’ll also have prints available for purchase. Miello is a comic book artist that’s involved in a number of projects, including one locally where he has rendered “Art,” the 2012 Wyandotte Street Art Fair mascot, as a comic book superhero.
: Get your hands a little dirty here by helping the DCA create a huge chalk art project.
Facepainting by Shannon Wilson: Want to go home looking better than when you arrived? Let Shannon showcase some of her art–on your face. The talented artist has had her work displayed at . And now you can be one of her walking masterpieces. This is a paid service.
Soodles the Clown: Find Soodles wandering the lot from 6:30 to 8 p.m. so she can twist you your favorite balloon animal.
A Serendipity Cakery: After you've recovered from your coney dogs, stop here to purchase some bite-sized Cake Drops, available in a variety of flavors.
Love Wyandotte: Volunteers from some downtown businesses will be handing out information on their new shop local campaign, “Summer of Independents.”
Dueling Banjos: Performers Al Allotta and Bill Jackson will play from 7 to 9 p.m. in front of .
