Softball Game Going to the Dogs (and Cats)

Two animal rescue groups with Wyandotte ties are hosting a charity softball game on Saturday.

They’ll be fighting like cats and dogs to win, but it’ll all be in good, clean fun.

And all of the proceeds will go to, who else, cats and dogs.

The second annual Shelter to Home v. PAWS of Michigan softball fundraiser will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday on the Riverview High School girls varsity softball field, on the corner of Longsdorf and Krause streets.

Shelter to Home won the inaugural softball tournament last year, 14-2, and walked away with $636 in donations.

“(We’re) looking forward to bringing the trophy home for another year,” said volunteer Lori Wend, who helps chair the event.

Players pay to play, with the winning rescue group taking home the entry money. Both groups also have supporters who pledge extra donations should their respective rescue win the game.

A 50/50 raffle also will be held, along with a card game for anyone to play. Profits are split evenly between the two groups.

While each rescue has their own pet projects, both also support the in helping to place homeless animals into new homes.
