Wyandotte Girls Selling Lemonade on Saturday

Rebecca and Karalyn Amison will be outside Shelter to Home Pet Adoption Center for Lemonade Day.

Two Wyandotte elementary school students will be young entrepreneurs for a day, with a portion of their profits going to a local charity.

Rebecca Amison, 11, and Karalyn Amison, 9, are participating in Lemonade Day on Saturday.

The national event is geared toward teaching children how to start a business from the ground up. They’re encouraged to save a little, spend a little and share a little of their earnings.

The Amison girls, who attend , will be selling their sweet drink from noon to 4 p.m. in front of , 266 Oak. With two cats of their own, Rebecca and Karalyn chose Shelter to Home as the group to benefit from their sales.

Their booth, which they helped build with their dad, will be called Kitty in Pink Lemonade.

In addition to selling lemonade, they also will have a Wall of Fame, where people can write their pet’s name on the wall for an additional donation.

Shelley Bawol, president of Shelter to Home, said the girls are great students with huge hearts.

“They are learning to help their community and themselves,” Bawol said. “They've been working very hard on this and would love to see all of you stop by and support their business and Shelter to Home.”

This is the first year they’ve officially participated in Lemonade Day, but last year, they created a similar stand and sold drinks to benefit PAWS of Michigan.
