You've Got Photos: Wyandotte Woman of the Year Gala

Saturday's event at the Wyandotte Arts Center featured 10 women honored by Women of Wyandotte and two young women honored by the Wyandotte Jaycees.

A dozen women were honored Saturday night at the Wyandotte Arts Center as part of the Woman of the Year Gala, put on by Women of Wyandotte and the Wyandotte Jaycees.

Each of the women was recognized for their hard work and dedication to the community, to charity and to their families.

The women were treated like stars for the evening, as they arrived in limousines and walked a red carpet into the gala. That came, of course, after they had their hair done at Teezers Hair Salon and manicures perfected at 3152 Studio.

Women of Wyandotte honored 10 local women with a Woman of the Year Award. The group also handed out three special awards named after women with significant ties to the city.

The Wyandotte Jaycees recognized two finalists for their Outstanding Young Woman of the Year award. Megan Maiani went on to win the honor.

The theme of the evening was I Love Lucy, the popular TV show that starred one-time Wyandotte resident Lucille Ball.

Portofino catered the event, which was black tie optional. Local singer Rosella Laduca entertained the crowd with three songs. A portrait of Lucille Ball done by artist Cathy Wake was unveiled during the celebration. All 12 women were awarded with a cigar box purse featuring a smaller version of Wake's artwork. Local dignitaries participating in the event included U.S. Rep. John Dingell, State Rep. Andrew Kandrevas (D-Southgate), State Sen. Hoon-Yung Hopgood (D-Taylor) and Wyandotte Mayor Joseph Peterson.

Wyandotte Police Chief Daniel Grant served as the emcee of the evening.

An afterglow party was held at Portofino, where many of the guests mingled and danced the night away.
