You Are Not Allowed!

We are a family of four who became first time dog owners last Christmas. I love what I now call my fur-child. I can come home from a bad day at work, and there he is with his big dog-smile, wagging his tail, happy to see his grouchy owner. Always turns my frown to a smile.

I also love my city. Wyandotte just has that small-town, bustling atmosphere. It is completely self-sufficient...with its meat markets, grocery stores, farmer's market, ice cream parlors, etc... You have your choice between many different wonderful parks to walk through, to play in, and to be part of the community. I have always loved this about my city. But I was so disappointed with my city after I got my pooch.

Every park I come across has a big sign "No animals allowed". I assume they do not want poop left there for other people to step in. I know not every dog owner carries baggies, being a responsible owner that picks up after their pets. Of course, on our walks I have run into many other dog owners I have seen with those baggies. Cudos for them! Then there was that one woman who let her dog poop on the sidewalk in front of my house and pranced away like it was nothing. Grrrr!

But then I visit BASF park, and there is no possible way you can walk by the water without stepping in all that goose poop! But dogs...keep them out! At least dog poop is easy to see and avoid. Goose poop...your choice is pretty much to not walk by the water at all to avoid it.

Sigh. All that green at BASF park. I can picture Jake running happily around. Playing Frisbee. Catch. Fetch. But no...when we go there we have to look at his sad face, because he knows when we are leaving him behind. Sorry pooch, we can't bring you. You are not allowed!

Would it be too much to ask for at least ONE dog friendly park in Wyandotte?
