Dawn Gatesy worked for 16 years as a paraprofessional for Wyandotte Public Schools. She, along with her husband, William Jr., and son, William III, died in a one-vehicle crash on I-94 on Monday.
Family and friends will gather today to mourn the loss of a mother, a father and their son -- all of whom were killed in a vehicle crash Monday afternoon. William Gatesy Jr., 55, was driving the family's 2013 Ford Explorer on I-94 in Calhoun County, which is east of Grand Rapids, when it left the freeway and slammed into a tree at about 3:30 p.m. His 53-year-old wife, Dawn Gatesy, and their 28-year-old son, William Gatesy III, also died in the crash. All three were from Allen Park. Police are investigating the cause of the crash, specifically whether a medical emergency played a role. Wyandotte Public Schools' staff and students are mourning the loss of one of their own after a horrific traffic accident claimed the lives of a mother, a father and their adult son Monday afternoon. Kerrigan Brandon's memorial service is set for Feb. 21 at Nixon Funeral Home in Wyandotte.
A 15-year-old Roosevelt High School student known to her friends as "Kear Bear" has died. Kerrigan Brandon died Wednesday at Mott's Children Hospital in Ann Arbor, where she had been hospitalized in a coma since overdosing on a cocktail of prescription drugs on Jan. 12. Her mother, Michele Rydlicki, said the teen will always be her Valentine. "You are the most beautiful angel in heaven," Michele wrote on a Facebook page she created for her daughter. "I'm sure being with God is better than any valentine! I love you baby girl." More than 1,000 people have "liked" the Facebook page and have rallied behind the teen. They need to investigate why the car was out of control, clear roads, no other vehicle involved. If the motor mounts were not secure it could have caused a steering problem therefore causing the engine to separate on impact. more ›
