MDEQ Issues Air Quality Alert for Friday, Declares Ozone Action Day

Sunshine and high temperatures will combine Friday to make the air unhealthy for sensitive groups.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has declared Friday to be an action day for elevated levels of ozone. Pollutants are expected to be in the unhealthy for sensitive groups range.  Friday will be sunny and warm with a highs in the low to mid 90s in southeast Michigan. Chance of rain is 10 percent. People and businesses should avoid these activities on Ozone Action days: Everyone is encouraged to car pool, use their bicycles or walk, and delay or combine errands when possible. Active children and adults, and persons with respiratory diseases such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion, the MDEQ advises. MDEQ Issues Air Quality Alert Monday for Southeast Michigan

Plenty of sun and temperatures in the 90s prompt an alert that air quality may be unhealthy for people with breathing problems.

The combination of sunshine, warmer temperatures and a southwesterly wind expected Monday have prompted the Michigan Dept. of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) to issue an Air Quality Action Day for southeast Michigan on Monday. According to a statement issued by the MDEQ, "high pressure at the surface and upper levels moves in for Monday and more widespread ozone development is expected by then." Air Quality Alert Issued for Southeast Michigan on Monday

Those with respiratory conditions, like asthma, are urged to limit outdoor activity.

An air quality alert action day has been issued for Monday, meaning elevated levels of pollutants are expected throughout the day. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality alert has been issued for most of Southeast Michigan, including Wayne and Oakland counties. It's recommended that those with respiratory diseases, such as asthma, limit extended outdoor activity. "People and businesses are urged to avoid activities which lead to ozone formation," according to the alert. Air Quality Alert Issued for Southeast Michigan Thursday

Temperatures could hit record highs tomorrow, the National Weather Service predicts.

Predicted high temperatures and poor air quality have the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issuing an "Air Action Day" alert Thursday. The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts tomorrow's daytime high could reach 97, under mostly sunny skies.  According to the MDEQ release, "ozone concentrations in the Mississippi Valley have already reached USG (unhealthy for sensitive groups) levels" and that air mass is headed toward Michigan. Air Quality Alert Issued for Detroit Area on Friday

The Michigan Dept. of Environmental Quality advises people and businesses to avoid activities like refueling vehicles and using gas-powered lawn equipment.

With temperatures expected to climb into the 80s, the Michigan Dept. of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has issued air quality alert action day Friday, meaning elevated levels of pollutants are expected. The alert has been issued for the Detroit area and cites "very strong solar radiation and light southerly winds" as conditions favorable for ozone development.
